Apple Halts Siri AI Launch in EU, Cites Regulatory Demands Over Data Access

On Monday (June 8), Apple announced it cannot launch Siri AI on iPhones and iPads in the European Union, citing disagreements with the European Commission over compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). According to Apple's statement, the EC has rejected all proposed solutions aimed at limiting data access while protecting user privacy. Apple's senior vice president Craig Federighi said the regulator's "extreme interpretation" of the DMA would require virtual assistants to directly access users' private data without adequate security safeguards. Siri AI will proceed as planned outside the EU, with developer testing beginning Monday and an English beta version expected later this year.
