According to South China Morning Post, Chinese chip designers Moore Threads and MetaX devoted 50% and 45% of revenue to research and development in the quarter ended March 2026, respectively, outpacing AMD and Intel’s 20-30% R&D-to-revenue ratios in recent years. However, Chinese firms still trail U.S. counterparts in absolute spending, with Nvidia reporting $18.5 billion in R&D for the year ended January 25, 2026, compared with $8 billion at AMD and $13.8 billion at Intel for the year ended December 27, 2025.
