ECB to Likely Raise Rates in June if Iran Conflict Persists, Wunsch Warns

According to Pierre Wunsch, ECB Governing Council member and Belgian National Bank governor, the European Central Bank would likely raise interest rates in June if the Iran conflict remains unresolved. Speaking Wednesday, Wunsch said the conflict has pushed the ECB to "the beginning of an inflation problem." With current eurozone inflation at 3%, he added that rate action is necessary, calling market expectations of three 25-basis-point hikes this year "reasonable."
