According to ChainCatcher citing Gate market data, U.S. stock indices opened lower on May 21. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.27%, the S&P 500 fell 0.39%, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.5%. Microsoft rose 1.1% on reports that Anthropic is in talks to use the company's artificial intelligence chips. U.S. Rare Earths gained 2.7% after being selected for the U.S. Department of Energy's rare earth processing pilot program. IBM advanced 3% following announcement of a $1 billion U.S. government allocation for quantum computing development.
