According to sources, on July 2, Apple raised its production preparation target for the first foldable iPhone to approximately 10 million units, up from the previously estimated 7–8 million units. The company has also secured supply chain commitments for components needed for 80 million new iPhones and requested suppliers to reserve universal components for the iPhone 18 series next year.
Samsung Display will be the exclusive supplier of the foldable iPhone's internal display under a three-year supply agreement. Samsung Display began mass production of foldable OLED panels in the second quarter, with initial shipments of approximately 3 million panels and a panel yield rate exceeding 80 percent. The hinge will be jointly supplied by Taiwan-based Hinge Tech and U.S.-based Amphenol, using 3D printing technology for enhanced durability. Counterpoint Research predicts Apple will capture 29 percent of global foldable smartphone display orders in 2026, second only to Samsung's 31 percent.
