According to CNBC's Squawk Box on Friday, billionaire investor and GMO co-founder Jeremy Grantham renewed criticism of bitcoin, predicting it will gradually fade into irrelevance over decades. Grantham said bitcoin is a "useless, speculative" asset without intrinsic value, comparing it unfavorably to gold. He noted that bitcoin lacks practical use cases, with people not using it for serious trades or everyday purchases. Bitcoin is currently trading about 52% below its October 2025 peak, hovering below $60,000, and has experienced at least 70% declines from peak in every market cycle.
