BIS Launches Live Transaction Tests for Project Agorá With 7 Central Banks and 40+ Institutions

GateNews
According to Bloomberg, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is launching live value transaction tests for Project Agorá today (May 28). The cross-border payments initiative involves BIS, seven central banks including the U.S. Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of Japan, and Bank of England, plus over 40 regulated institutions such as JPMorgan, UBS, and Deutsche Bank. The prototype uses a "unified ledger" concept powered by blockchain technology to settle interbank transfers across countries in seconds via atomic transactions. The system maintains existing sanctions enforcement and anti-money laundering screening mechanisms. The Bank of Canada has already joined, with more private institutions expected to follow.
