Senior figures from CoinShares, Calamos, ProShares, and Flow Traders identified persistent infrastructure challenges in the spot Bitcoin ETF market, according to panelists. While spot Bitcoin ETFs have improved market access, the panel flagged three priority issues requiring resolution: custody concentration, advisor adoption, and creation-flow efficiency.
Panelists highlighted Coinbase-heavy custody concentration as a structural vulnerability in the current spot Bitcoin ETF ecosystem. The reliance on a single custodian represents centralization risk that may need to be addressed through broader custody infrastructure development.
Modest advisor adoption of spot Bitcoin ETFs was identified as another barrier to broader market penetration. Financial advisors’ limited integration of these products into client portfolios suggests education or product-market fit challenges remain.
Creation-flow inefficiency was flagged as a plumbing issue affecting the operational mechanics of spot Bitcoin ETFs. This technical bottleneck may impact the speed and cost of ETF share creation and redemption processes.
