Bitmine Emergence Technologies (NAS:BMNR), which operates an Ethereum treasury strategy, slowed its ETH purchasing pace last week while conducting a large-scale share buyback program. The company purchased 7,430 ETH last week, bringing total holdings to approximately 5.78 million ETH — one of the smallest weekly purchases since launching the strategy in June last year. Chairman Tom Lee attributed the reduced buying pace to the execution of a previously approved $4 billion share buyback program, under which the company purchased approximately 5.5 million shares at an average price of $15.62. Bitmine has been purchasing Ethereum weekly for over a year since adopting its treasury strategy and currently holds about 4.8% of total ETH supply, nearing its 5% ownership target.
Chairman Tom Lee directly addressed the reduced Ethereum acquisition volume in a company statement. "We purchased approximately 5.5 million shares at an average price of $15.62 under our previously approved $4 billion share buyback program, which temporarily reduced our Ethereum purchasing pace," Lee stated according to CoinDesk. He added that the company has been consistently purchasing Ethereum on a weekly basis for over a year since implementing the treasury strategy.
The last week's purchase of 7,430 ETH represents approximately $14 million at current prices, marking one of the smallest weekly acquisitions since the company launched its Ethereum treasury strategy in June last year. During the first half of this year, Bitmine purchased tens of thousands of ETH weekly, with some weeks exceeding 110,000 ETH in acquisitions.
As of the 19th, Bitmine's total asset holdings stood at approximately $11.5 billion. Beyond its Ethereum position of approximately 5.78 million ETH, the company's portfolio includes 207 Bitcoin, $385 million in cash and securities, $180 million in Beast Industries equity stake, and $58 million in Eightco Holdings investment.
The company's Ethereum holdings now represent approximately 4.8% of the total ETH supply in circulation, positioning Bitmine close to its stated goal of holding 5% of all Ethereum.
