Brazilian Farm Secures $20K Loan by Tokenizing 10 Cows on B3, First Deal of Its Kind

According to Valor International, a farm in Paraná, Brazil recently secured a $20,000 loan by tokenizing a herd of 10 cows as collateral, marking the first transaction of its kind registered with B3, the country's main stock exchange. The farmer received a Financial Rural Product Note (CPR-F) valued at nearly $100,000 from BMP, a direct credit society, with the cows assigned to Target FIDC, which digitized each animal's data. Smart collars monitor the herd in real time, allowing creditors to assess livestock status continuously and significantly lowering loan risks. According to Thiago Martins, CEO of Cowmed, this monitoring capability enables cows to be valued up to 2.5 times higher than in traditional non-monitored loan agreements.
