CFTC Extends Futures Trading and Energy Derivatives Rule Comment Period to August 26

According to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the agency extended the public comment period for proposed rules on 24/7 futures trading and perpetual contracts for physical or storable energy commodities by 30 days to August 26, 2026. The extension, announced on July 24, follows requests from commenters and the addition of new questions for consideration. The proposed rules address two areas: extending standard futures contracts, including energy futures, to 24/7 trading while maintaining fixed expiration dates; and establishing perpetual contracts for physical or storable energy commodities.
