On May 26, during a UN Security Council high-level meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi outlined China's contributions to the United Nations, marking the 55th anniversary of the People's Republic's restored UN seat. Wang highlighted China's role as a permanent Security Council member in advancing UN affairs.
Wang noted that China's Global Development Initiative has mobilized over $23 billion in funding across more than 1,800 projects, trained more than 200,000 professionals in capacity-building programs for developing nations. The foreign minister also pledged humanitarian assistance to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda in response to recent Ebola outbreaks, with Chinese medical teams already deployed on the ground.
