China's Market Regulator Fines Ctrip 5.179 Billion Yuan for Monopolistic Practices on July 25

According to Xinhua News Agency, China's State Administration for Market Regulation fined Ctrip 5.179 billion yuan on July 25 for abusing its dominant market position in online hotel booking services. The penalty includes 1.658 billion yuan in confiscated illegal gains and 3.521 billion yuan in fines, plus 122 million yuan in mandatory refunds to hotel operators. The regulator found that Ctrip violated antitrust law by enforcing exclusive cooperation agreements and imposing "lowest price across the internet" requirements on hotels, restricting fair competition and limiting hotel operators' pricing autonomy.
