FBI Freezes $679 Million in Scam Transfers in 2025, Achieving 58% Recovery Rate

According to the FBI's 2025 Internet Crime Report, the agency froze $679 million in fraudulent transfers last year, achieving a 58% success rate. The FBI said victims reported roughly $1.2 billion in qualifying cases, with the recovery team collaborating with banks to block funds before scammers accessed them.

Overall cybercrime complaints exceeded 1 million last year with total losses nearing $21 billion, according to the FBI report. Recovery efforts work best when victims notify their bank immediately and file a complaint within 48 hours.
