Foreign Investors Flood South Korean 3-Year Treasury Futures with 29,000 Net Purchases on July 28

According to Yonhap Infomax, foreign investors made massive net purchases of 29,000 South Korean 3-year Treasury futures contracts on July 28, marking the highest volume since March 31, 2025, when they bought 33,000 contracts. The buying spree came as Middle East tensions eased following signs of U.S.-Iran negotiations and a temporary halt in military escalation.

Asia's bond markets rallied sharply in response, with New Zealand's 2-year Treasury yield falling 10 basis points and Australia's declining 8 basis points. The shift reflected reduced concerns over potential oil supply disruptions via the Strait of Hormuz, with South Korea receiving 54.2% of its energy imports from the Middle East, according to Nomura Securities data.
