Georgia Launches Crackdown on Illegal Crypto Mining in Mestia, Installing Meters on June 1

According to Crypto Briefing, Georgia's deputy prime minister launched a comprehensive action on June 1 to combat illegal cryptocurrency mining, with a focus on Mestia city in the Svaneti region. The core measure involves installing electricity meters across all villages in the area, with enforcement support from local authorities.

Mestia consumed 134 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2025, approximately 13 times higher than comparable municipalities in Georgia. The government estimates illegal mining causes an annual loss of 20–25 million lari to the country's energy system.
