IMF Chief Economist Says Global Economy Remains Firmly Dollar-Centric Despite U.S. Tariffs

According to Reuters, IMF chief economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas said the global economy remains firmly anchored to the U.S. dollar across international trade, banking, and central bank reserves, despite tariff-driven shifts in global commerce. "We see virtually no signs the world is moving away from a dollar-centric system," Gourinchas, who departs IMF next week to return to academia, stated. He noted that over the past decade, shifts away from dollar dominance have been minimal.
