JPMorgan Explores Agentic AI Applications in Cross-Border Payments and Treasury Automation

According to Zack Anderson, chief data officer at JPMorgan Payments, speaking during the New York Tech Week event, the bank is exploring applications of Agentic AI in cross-border payments and treasury automation. Anderson noted that AI agents are already operating extensively in banking infrastructure, improving payment flow efficiency and risk management.

The core challenge facing the payments industry with Agentic AI is governance and auditability of machine authorization, especially for high-value transactions. Anderson highlighted leveraging AI to handle complex cross-border payment compliance rules as a near-term opportunity to reduce payment rejection rates, while noting that Agentic Treasury management represents a future priority area.
