Meta CEO Zuckerberg: Cloud Computing Business 'Absolutely' in Consideration if Compute Capacity Becomes Excess

At Meta's annual shareholders meeting on May 27, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company would "absolutely" consider entering the cloud computing business if it develops excess computing capacity. Zuckerberg noted that external companies approach Meta weekly requesting API services or inquiring about purchasing computing power at a premium above Meta's procurement costs. "We currently don't do this because we believe the computing power still has internal uses," he said. "However, if we find overcapacity in the future, renting it out externally would be an option we could pursue."
