Nigeria Becomes First OPEC Member to Join IEA as Associate Member, Expanding Network to 80% of Global Energy Demand

According to the International Energy Agency, Nigeria has become the first OPEC member state to join the IEA as an associate member, deepening ties between Africa's largest oil producer and the global energy watchdog. The IEA's network now covers over 80% of global energy demand.

IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol stated that Nigeria's membership represents "a milestone in global energy governance," adding that deeper cooperation will bring significant benefits as Nigeria strengthens energy security and expands energy access.
