According to Bloomberg, on May 15, OpenAI and Apple’s two-year partnership has broken down, with OpenAI preparing potential legal action. OpenAI failed to achieve expected revenue gains from the collaboration and plans to notify Apple of alleged contract violations, though a full lawsuit may not be filed initially. The company has recently hired external legal counsel to assist with the matter.

OpenAI had anticipated that embedding ChatGPT into Apple software would drive subscriptions and lead to deeper integration across multiple apps, with OpenAI’s technology featuring prominently in Siri. However, the actual implementation of OpenAI’s technology in Apple’s operating system remains limited and difficult for users to discover.
