OpenAI Appoints Ex-Uber India President as First India MD, Starting September

According to TechCrunch, OpenAI has hired Prabhjeet Singh, former Uber India and South Asia president, as its first managing director for India, effective in September. Singh will oversee consumer growth, enterprise adoption, partnerships, regulatory engagement, and operations in the country.

At Uber, Singh led the mobility business and safety initiatives across India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, and helped expand the company into new cities. The appointment follows OpenAI's India expansion, which includes its first office in New Delhi opened in August 2025, with planned offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
