OpenAI in Talks to Offer US 5% Stake, Lower Than Previous Target

According to the Financial Times, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is in active talks with the Trump administration about the US acquiring a 5 percent stake in the leading AI firm. The talks are in early stages, with Altman arguing that giving the public a financial stake is the best way to share the upside of AI. Trump favors the proposal, and his administration has also approached other AI companies including Google and Meta about similar stakes. However, neither Google nor Meta has indicated agreement with the 5 percent figure.
