Qualcomm in Talks With ByteDance on Custom Chip Design Including Video Processing Units

According to Reuters, on June 24, Qualcomm is discussing a custom chip design project with ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, which could include video processing units (VPUs). The companies are exploring mass production by year-end, though discussions may not result in a final agreement. The potential collaboration would leverage technology from AlphaWave Semi, a high-speed connectivity company Qualcomm agreed to acquire in 2025.
