Single-Stock Leveraged ETF Inflows Slow to 53.4 Billion Won in a Week, Down from Trillions Since May Launch

According to Korean Economic TV on July 24, inflows into single-stock leveraged ETFs tracking Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix slowed dramatically, with net inflows of 53.4 billion won in the past week compared to trillions of won weekly since their launch on May 27. Cumulative inflows reached 13 trillion won. Among the 14 products, KODEX SK Hynix Single-Stock Leveraged saw net outflows of 9.8 billion won, while KODEX Samsung Electronics and TIGER Samsung Electronics both experienced significant redemptions of 75 billion and 54.3 billion won respectively. Retail investors led the selling, with net outflows of 159 billion won from KODEX SK Hynix in four trading days ending July 23. The slowdown reflects both stricter government regulations—including raising minimum margin requirements to 30 million won starting July 31 and mandating cash-only collateral—and weakened investor risk appetite amid market volatility.
