SK Hynix ADR Trades 33% Premium Over Domestic Shares; Mutual Conversion Begins July 29

According to Shinhan Investment Securities on July 23, SK Hynix ADRs (American Depositary Receipts) are trading at a 33.2% premium to the company's domestic shares. Starting July 29, mutual conversion procedures between the ADR and domestic shares will commence, enabling arbitrage opportunities. Shinhan's analysis suggests that when ADR premiums are historically elevated, price normalization typically occurs more through domestic share appreciation than ADR decline. Past cases of high ADR premiums showed domestic shares outperforming their markets by 2.81 percentage points over 20 trading days and 4.05 points over 60 days, with appreciation-driven gap narrowing accounting for 48.8% of premium compression versus only 14.2% from ADR declines.
