SK Telecom Establishes AI Data Center Subsidiary SK Hyper, Invests US$510M by 2030

SK Telecom announced on July 23 it will establish SK Hyper, a wholly-owned AI data center subsidiary, and invest 750 billion won (US$510 million) by 2030 to secure sites and build substations in South Korea. The company appointed Chung Suk-geun as SK Hyper's chief executive.

SK Telecom targets 5GW of capacity by 2029 in the first phase and plans to expand to 15GW by 2035. The company will start with a gigawatt-scale AI data center cluster in Ulsan, then expand to the Chungcheong and Honam regions.
