According to South Korea’s Defense Minister An Kyou-paik, on Wednesday, South Korea is assessing ways to contribute in phases to securing maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz. An conveyed this position to U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin during talks on Monday, stating that South Korea will participate as a responsible member of the international community and evaluate how to make staged contributions. Phased support may include political statements, personnel deployment, information sharing, and provision of military assets, though the two sides have not discussed detailed plans for expanding South Korean military involvement.
