South Korean Lawmakers Explore State Compensation Lawsuits Over Samsung, SK Hynix Leverage ETF Losses on July 28

According to Etoday, on July 28, South Korean lawmakers are exploring state compensation lawsuits over investor losses from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix leverage ETFs. The Financial Services Commission approved the 2x single-stock leverage products on May 27, which saw rapid inflows and mechanical rebalancing that amplified volatility. As of June 25, the 14 products held net assets of 16.28 trillion won with daily trading volume at 14.48 trillion won. On July 16, authorities raised the minimum deposit requirement from 10 million to 30 million won and accelerated regulatory changes originally scheduled for August to July 31.
