South Korea's cryptocurrency trading volumes have collapsed, with daily trades across the nation's five largest won-based exchanges falling from US$2.82 billion in July 2025 to US$305 million in July 2026, a decline of roughly 89%, as retail investors shift capital toward the country's surging KOSPI index. The benchmark equity gauge climbed 114.44% in the 12 months to July 22, 2026, drawing speculative appetite away from digital assets. Weaker trading activity has strained exchange revenues; some platforms have responded by selling digital asset holdings, with Korbit reportedly liquidating 15 Bitcoin and 60 Ether, worth approximately US$1 million, to offset reduced transaction fees.
