According to Morningstar analyst Michael Hodel, SpaceX's Starlink has emerged as a profitable satellite internet service since its June public debut, but the analyst believes its impact on traditional telecom providers is overstated. Hodel expects Starlink to complement rather than replace terrestrial networks, citing technical limitations and the difficulty of building a nationwide wireless infrastructure.

EchoStar sold its nationwide AWS-3 wireless spectrum licenses to SpaceX for $2.6 billion in stock, supporting the latter's satellite-based mobile service expansion. However, Hodel argues that satellite coverage works best in remote locations and cannot fully meet consumers' expectations for reliable nationwide service.
