Stripe and Advent International Offer $53 Billion to Acquire PayPal; PYPL Surges 17%

According to Reuters, Stripe and Advent International offered to acquire PayPal for $53 billion on July 15. PayPal stock surged approximately 17% in intraday trading, closing at $55.52. Polygon Labs' Global Head of Business Aishwary Gupta told The Block that the deal could accelerate blockchain-based payment adoption, noting "within the next few years, the majority of money will live and move on blockchain in one form or another." Both companies have expanded stablecoin efforts; PayPal's PYUSD has a market cap of $2.8 billion compared to Circle's USDC at over $70 billion.
