According to block explorer data, Sui mainnet suffered a second network stall on Friday, less than 24 hours after Thursday's 5-hour 55-minute outage tied to a gas charging logic bug in the 1.72 release. The Friday disruption paused block production at approximately 11:51 UTC, with normal activity resuming around 3:30 UTC after validators deployed a long-term software fix.

The 1.72 release introduced two major protocol features: Address Balances, designed to simplify transactions by moving away from Sui's UTXO-style model, and Gasless Stablecoin Transfers, which allow supported stablecoins to move peer-to-peer without gas fees. Sui said both outages resulted from the interaction between the new balance functionality and gas charging logic in the release.
