Threshold Network Stops Optimistic Minting After Failed tBTC Attack on May 18

According to Threshold Network, an attacker attempted to mint tBTC without depositing underlying BTC on May 18 at 18:04 UTC, but the attempt failed and no invalid tBTC was produced. User funds were not at risk. In response, Threshold Network has temporarily halted Optimistic Minting and switched minting to the sweeping mechanism, extending minting time from approximately 1.5 hours to 6–7 hours as a precautionary measure amid rising malicious activity in the crypto ecosystem.
