UK Oil Industry Urges PM Meeting to Unlock £50B North Sea Investment on July 22

Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) called on Prime Minister Andy Burnham on July 22 to urgently meet with North Sea oil and gas operators, urging the government to introduce a more competitive fiscal and regulatory framework. According to the organization, reforms could unlock approximately £50 billion in additional investment, including around £26 billion in new capital spending over the next decade and over £13 billion in additional tax revenue. OEUK argues that maintaining domestic oil production could support energy security and thousands of skilled jobs, while reducing the UK's dependency on imported fuels. The appeal came as Brent crude climbed above $92 per barrel amid Middle East tensions.
