U.S. Air Force's MQ-9 Fleet Drops to 135 Aircraft From 165 Since Early 2026, Struggles to Replenish

According to The War Zone, the U.S. Air Force's MQ-9 drone fleet has shrunk from approximately 165 aircraft in early fiscal 2026 to about 135 currently, a loss of roughly 30 aircraft. The reduction stems from operations against Iran and missions against Houthi forces. With MQ-9A production halted, the Air Force is seeking unused inventory from General Atomics but faces constraints; fewer than 10 aircraft are available for purchase.
