U.S. Senate Advances Bill to Force Trump to Withdraw from Iran as GOP Senator Cassidy Votes with Democrats

GateNews
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Senate advanced a bill on Tuesday (May 20) aimed at forcing President Trump to withdraw from Iran, with Louisiana Republican Senator Bill Cassidy casting the deciding vote. Democrats had attempted multiple times since Trump ordered military strikes on Iran in late February to force a vote on war powers resolutions, requiring Trump to either obtain congressional approval to continue the conflict or withdraw. Previously, Republicans had sufficient votes to block such proposals, but Cassidy, whom Trump opposed in a recent primary election, broke ranks with his party to enable the bill to advance.
