U.S. Treasury Refunds Nearly $22B in Tariffs in May, Offsetting Monthly Collection

According to a U.S. Treasury Department statement released this week, the department refunded nearly $22 billion in tariffs to importers in May. The refund amount marks a significant increase from $2 billion in April and represents the first major refund wave since the Supreme Court overturned most of former President Trump's tariff measures. The May refund total was roughly equivalent to the tariffs collected that same month, effectively offsetting each other.
