USDT Premium in India Jumps to 8.5% Amid Supply Tightening

According to Economic Times, USDT in India traded at 102.88 Indian rupees on the weekend (June 28–29), an 8.5% premium above the official USD/INR exchange rate of 94.65. The markup surged from a typical 3–4% range, reflecting a sharp local shortage of dollar-pegged stablecoin supply. India ranks first globally for crypto adoption, where Tether serves as a critical tool for traders and savers to preserve dollar value while navigating the country's heavy tax regime on crypto gains and strict controls on foreign-currency purchases.
