WEMIX Loses $6.25 Million in Smart Contract Breach as Attackers Gain Owner Privileges

According to crypto.news, WEMIX suffered a smart contract breach on July 26, during which attackers obtained owner-level privileges over the WEMIX$ stablecoin contract and minted approximately 5.23 million WEMIX$ worth $6.25 million. The stolen tokens were converted into 30,736 WEMIX and 724,198.27 USDC.e, then dispersed across Ethereum and BNB Chain, complicating recovery efforts.

WEMIX immediately disabled the WEMIX3.0 Bridge and liquidity pools as containment measures, while several exchanges froze attacker-linked addresses. The breach marks the protocol's second major security incident in five months, following a February 2025 incident that drained approximately $6.1–$6.2 million from the Play Bridge Vault.
