GateNews
According to Alberta Wildfire, wildfires in Canada's oil sands region are advancing within 20 kilometers of a major oil-producing zone that outputs approximately 500,000 barrels per day. Six uncontrolled fires are spreading in the Lac la Biche area, home to some of Canada's largest in-situ oil sands facilities. The largest fire has burned approximately 1,000 hectares, with several major oil sands operations located only 11 to 19 kilometers away. The Conklin community, with around 229 residents, has been ordered to prepare for potential evacuation.
