Although Pi Network is independently developed, DTCC has announced that it will begin offering tokenization services on the Stellar network in 2027 this time. Will Pi be able to catch a bit of that benefit? Without a doubt, the future is inevitable.
The “engine” and “chassis” of Pi Network are built using Stellar’s technology (Pi’s underlying code is largely based on Stellar). In the past two days, it has also been upgraded to protocol v24.
Now, DTCC (the global financial super boss) has decided to officially bring real-world assets worth 1.14 trillion USD—stocks, government bonds, ETFs, and other genuine assets—onto the Stellar chain, and has also obtained regulatory approval from the U.S. SEC.
It’s like: a super strict bank says, “I only trust the technology from this factory, so I hand my vault and all my valuables over to it for management.”
What happened? This factory (Stellar) suddenly becomes super reliable, licensed, and backed.
Because Pi uses the same set of technology (technology stack), when others take one look, they’ll think: “Oh, Pi is using the same technology that has been recognized by big banks. It shouldn’t be too bad.”
This is what’s called indirect credibility injection.
DTCC will use Stellar first, and in the future will also add other public chains that have undergone rigorous audits. Although it’s not possible to use pinetwork, because the direction is different. In the future, DTCC and Stellar—and other chains—will belong to the “asset layer,” while pinetwork belongs to the “account layer.”
Pi has a decentralized KYC system. This huge user layer will make Pi’s DID users include public keys, verification methods, and service endpoints. When users’ cross-chain visibility becomes a reality in the future, they won’t need to repeat identity verification. Because Pi has a massive compliant real-person database, using VC technology Pi can prove to the underlying financial asset chain that “this operator is a real person, compliant, and meets KYC and AML requirements.” At the same time, user privacy is not disclosed. At the Miami conference, the doctor also emphasized this again.
So in the future, there will definitely be many new innovations on the Pi network—innovations based on how to achieve cross-chain innovation between the front-end “user layer” and the DTCC + Stellar “asset layer.” The space for innovations around tokenized asset rights is extremely, extremely large.
Quick one-sentence summary:
DTCC gave Stellar a big thumbs-up; and because Pi uses the same “components” as Stellar, Pi also benefits and looks more official and more trustworthy.
