Recently, I saw someone quote "Fortune favors the brave," but I realized most people only understand the surface meaning.
What is the full meaning of this phrase? Desire arises from the heart, greed grows from the edge of courage. Fortune favors the brave, but also loses in danger. When seeking, the success rate is one in ten; when losing, nine in ten.
See, this is the true logic of trading. Many people only see the first half and think that "Fortune favors the brave" means taking risks and going all in. But the key is in the second half — losing also happens in danger. And when seeking, the success rate is only ten percent, while the chance of losing is ninety percent.
In other words, making a billion dollars in the market might require ten times the effort and time, but losing it can happen with just one wrong decision. Over my years of trading, I’ve seen too many people give back all their gains because of one over-leverage or one greed-driven move.
So, the phrase "Fortune favors the brave" is not encouraging reckless risk-taking; it’s a reminder — risk and reward are always symmetrical. You need to understand what you’re pursuing and what you’re willing to bear.
When you stare into the abyss, the abyss also stares into you. This is not some metaphysical concept; it’s the essence of the market. Whether it’s algorithmic trading or manual trading, the most important thing is to implement proper risk management for your strategy. Respect the market — it’s truly not just a slogan.
