Bezos Returns as Co-CEO of Prometheus AI, Raises $12 Billion at $41 Billion Valuation

According to recent interviews, Jeff Bezos has assumed the co-CEO role at AI startup Prometheus, which announced a $12 billion funding round on Thursday, valuing the company at $41 billion. The 62-year-old Amazon founder, who stepped down as CEO in 2021, described the position as "Type 2 fun"—the kind of fulfillment that comes after undertaking a difficult challenge. Bezos told reporters he initially joined Prometheus as an investor but decided to take an operational role after witnessing the team's capabilities and potential. "I couldn't just sit on the sidelines," he said. "I had to go all in." Co-CEO Vik Bajaj, a Stanford Medical School faculty member with experience founding life sciences ventures, works closely with Bezos with no formal division of responsibilities. Prometheus, founded seven months ago with initial $6.2 billion in funding, focuses on developing AI models capable of performing physical tasks.
