According to the Central Bank of Brazil, virtual asset service providers (VASPs) were classified as Tier 3 institutions on July 4, 2026, subjecting them to the same regulatory requirements as securities brokers and forex brokers under Resolution 580/2026.

Effective January 1, 2027, covered institutions must comply with risk management rules, capital requirements, and information disclosure standards. By June 30, 2028, all VASPs regardless of size will be reclassified as Tier 4 institutions and will no longer be eligible for the simplified compliance regime applicable to low-risk Tier 5 institutions.
