China Approves 15th Five-Year Sports Industry Plan; Sector Breaks 5 Trillion Yuan on July 2

According to China's State Council on July 2, the government approved the 15th Five-Year Plan for building a sports powerhouse, targeting improvements in public fitness services, competitive sports management, and youth sports development, alongside acceleration of the sports industry's quality upgrade. China's sports industry reached 5.12 trillion yuan in total scale in 2025, surpassing the 5 trillion yuan target, with an average annual growth rate exceeding 10 percent over recent years. Institutions project the sector could exceed 7 trillion yuan by 2030. Analysts attribute recent momentum to viral sports events like the Jiangsu Super League, which demonstrated the economic multiplier effect of integrating sports, culture, and tourism, with ticket revenues generating 7.3 times greater consumer spending in surrounding sectors.
