China Deploys AI-Energy Coordination: 5-Second AI Video Consumes Power Equivalent to Charging 10 Phones on June 26

According to China's National Energy Administration Director Wang Hongzhi on June 26, artificial intelligence and energy have entered a phase of mutual enablement. Highlighting the surge in AI-driven electricity demand, Wang noted that generating a 5-second high-definition video via AI consumes as much power as charging 10 mobile phones. To address this exponential growth, the administration will implement "energy-powered computing" strategies, coordinating energy resources with computing infrastructure deployment across three dimensions: planning layout coordination in both western and eastern regions, policy system alignment supporting green electricity direct connections and green certificate trading, and operational optimization based on different computational task characteristics.
