EU Halts Carbon Allowance Sales, Secures €8 Billion for Energy Transition

According to an EU Commission official statement, the European Union halted the sale of pre-allocated carbon emission allowances on Monday after achieving its €8 billion fundraising target through its Emissions Trading System (ETS). The funds are intended to support Europe's transition away from Russian natural gas.

Following the completion of this goal, the EU adjusted its carbon allowance auction schedule. From June 23 through August, auction volumes on the unified EU auction platform will be reduced from 3.1985 million allowances to 2.8175 million allowances.
