Former LA Sheriff Deputy Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison for Obstructing Crypto Investigation on July 13

According to the U.S. Department of Justice Central District of California, former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) deputy Scott Allen Simpkins, 34, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and fined $10,000 on July 13 for obstructing justice. Simpkins, who worked for private security company owned by Adam Iza, lied repeatedly to FBI and federal prosecutors in November 2024, falsely denying he witnessed ammunition and financial transactions related to an alleged extortion incident. Iza, described as a crypto "godfather," has pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges including wire fraud, tax evasion, and alleged bitcoin robbery.
