France's National Identity Document Agency Confirms Data Breach, Personal Information Exposed

Gate News message, April 20 — France’s National Identity Document Management Agency (CNRLT) confirmed on April 20 that its information system experienced a security incident on April 15, resulting in unauthorized access to personal data of some users.

According to the French Interior Ministry, compromised information may include names, email addresses, birth dates, and for some users, home addresses, birthplaces, and phone numbers. The breach does not involve documents submitted during the application process and cannot be used directly to access user accounts. Authorities have launched a technical investigation, implemented enhanced security measures, and begun notifying affected users. The French judiciary has opened an investigation.

CNRLT is responsible for issuing French passports, national identity cards, residence permits, and driving licenses. The agency serves as a critical institution for French citizens’ essential documentation.
